Pixey - Million Dollar Baby
After the recent success of EP “Sunshine State”, a summertime-indie collection, the Liverpudlian singer/songwriter Pixey has staged dived into a new sound of electro-pop, with ‘Million Dollar Baby’ which according to them is a “new sound”. After the release of ‘Thrill Of It’ and now the latest single, the album is set to be a compilation of the musical experimental works undergone so far. There’s no doubt over the success of the stylistic switch for the upcoming record, with Pixey gaining over a quarter of a million streams on recent singles and fans becoming more supportive than ever. As the title track, ‘Million Dollar Baby’ gives the audience a taste of what’s to come with the full debut album release on the 2nd of August.
An elegant orchestral section provides the intro to the single, fading into a glossy pop nostalgia train, with synths and beats echoing back to the noughties with its sporadic high keys and dance pop percussion. Overlaid by a gentle vocal line with heavy reverb that evokes a sense of distance, the beat underneath the bass undertone follows and matches the vocal’s vibes, bringing it all together.
The song employs a modern production method with its up to date drum preset choices and trendy high toned keys that’s executed well by Pixey, displaying their raw musical talent to produce and perform a pop track such high calibre. The instrumental sitting at the tail end of the track again highlights the talent Pixey can deliver whilst self-producing.
