NEW SINGLE RELEASE
LEONI - SUPERNOVA

By Olivia Bloore

LEONI’s second single is a fresh new take on early 2000s dance music. ‘SUPERNOVA’ is a bold statement of teenage girl confidence, with a pounding electronic soundtrack that takes us back to Y2K divas and discos.

LEONI is a 16-year-old singer-songwriter, producer and fashion student from North London. Drawing on influences such as Tate McRae, Olivia Rodrigo and dance music, this is a statement single that establishes LEONI as an upcoming pop star.

The track is immediately reminiscent of early 2000s disco pop - we hear the influence of artists such as Britney Spears, Rihanna and Lady Gaga. The quick fade in starts with the chorus hook,‘I’ll be your supernova’, with a four on the floor drumbeat establishing a fast upbeat tempo as we dive straight into the track.

Heavy on the 80s style synths and midi percussion, the electronic production forefronts LEONI’s strong, versatile voice. The percussion is the pulse of the track, with the animated, rhythmic vocals as an extra driving force.

The lyrics express self-hype and girl power: she sings ‘got my girls with me, show ‘n’ make a scene’, followed by ‘told myself I’d go far’. Her style changes between a punchy, half spoken ‘click of a camera’ which double tracks the sung vocal line, and ethereal layered harmonies in the chorus.

LEONI is manifesting pop-stardom, and in doing so is taking the Y2K dance pop revival to new heights. With news of an upcoming EP on the horizon, we can’t wait to see what she does next.
