NEW ALBUM RELEASE
junodream - Pools of Colour

By Jake Goodland

Debut album ‘Pools of Colour’ from upcoming indie outfit junodream, incorporates a staggering blend of melodic space themed keys and 90s- esque progressive rock and roll,      having you dancing around your house to feeling like you're floating through space in the matter of two tracks. The musical chemistry within the band is paramount for this record, the band has well-structured the project to further develop the albums storyline line, creating what feels like an experience not just an album.

Lead singer Ed Vyvyan’s powerful yet mellow vocal performance on the record is a constant reminder of the complications of modern life, with themes of family, love, and emotion which are displayed over incredible multi-layered produced tracks which could easily work as a film outro. Heavily altered guitar leads, keyboard and echoed whispering vocal lines build a mass of progressive anthems, further depicting the space theme.

Genius work to combine tracks like ‘The Beach’, which paints a perfect picture of floating off to a never ending sunset, is experimental yet remains composed into a narrative of love escalation. Structured with an intro, interlude and outro it’s key to notice as in all of the tracks, the subject matter compliments the musical format exceptionally.

'Pools of Colour' also touches upon harder rock and roll styles, with tracks like “Death Drive” and 'Kitchen Sink Drama’ which still maintain the feeling of being dreamy and glossy. While the content stays emotional and heartfelt, the musical elements build to something much more upbeat, changing the listening experience from a slow back and forth head nod to all out head bobbing through powerful guitar leads and thick drum additions.

A project inspired by progressive bands such as Radiohead, an often underexplored genre in recent times – ‘Pools of Colour’ feels fresh while still hinting at a vintage soaked sound. The album has further developed the unique sound for Junodream, appealing to current fans and creating interest for a new audience – an impressive feat for a debut album.

A multi layered and expansive project spanning ten tracks, ‘Pools of Colour’ will make you sit and ponder over how simplistic bass lines and drum patterns can be twisted into a theatrical overload of sonic feelings. Fans have a chance to celebrate this truly unique album during junodream’s upcoming UK tour, where they are also sure to return to hits like ‘Nobody Wants You’ and ‘To The Moon’.
