NEW SINGLE RELEASE
ilyada - Tired of Trying

By Kayin Sowade

‘Tired Of Trying’ is a remarkable new track by rising pop superstar, Ilayda, released on the 16th of February.

Throughout the track, Ilayda describes the dynamics of a broken relationship. Narratively, they showcase an impressive vulnerability, revealing a rich internal world as they ruminate on where things went wrong for the couple.

The vocals are crisp and almost raspy, as if the song was recorded straight after an argument – an additional layer of authentic texture to the already powerful storytelling. Forgoing a typical intro, Ilayda immediately drops listeners into a world of held back truths and manipulation, underscored by a need for sobriety from the addictive pull of toxic relationships.

Starting from a simple but engaging guitar line, the song builds, bringing in a thumping kick -drum and snare. The production isn’t overdone - it’s honest, cutting straight to the core of the matter. Peripherally, there is effective use of delayed vocal, allowing us to hear Ilayda’s thoughts reflected back, folding in on themselves, stressing the emotional toll.

For a fleeting moment, it all falls away to introduce a subtle, yet intriguing percussion before launching into a punchy, synth driven chorus, accompanied by sprinklings of some beautiful descending piano melodies.

In the second verse of the song, we return to the now familiar guitar and drums, and lyrically push through the turmoil of the first half with a defiant “but I don't mind”. The addition of light piano makes for some charming additional melody, present enough to notice but not distracting. This verse feels like a goodbye and good riddance to the past, ending with Ilayda calling out “I’m lonelier next to you”, followed by a triumphant and final return of the chorus.

This is the fourth single dropped since Ilayda’s 2022 debut EP ‘Shades’, and if it’s anything to go by, future projects from the singer are going to be stellar.
