NEW SINGLE RELEASE
Ellie Bleach - Whole Lotta Nothing

By Matilda Stokes

Ellie Bleach is consistently captivating, and their new single “Whole Lotta Nothing” is no exception to this rule.

The song dramatises the gutless emptiness that hookups cultivate after the ruination of a deep and meaningful relationship. The need for these trivial experiences to escape the scalding feeling of loneliness is poignantly captured in lines like “-please don’t leave me alone with me.” Ellie’s singing is almost spoken, with their down-to-earth, warm tone adding a layer of self-assuredness that makes the song all the more gut-wrenching.

The track is sewn together with lovely instrumentation - dreamy guitar, drifting drums, squeaking strings and saxophone breaks, which are the cherry on top of the ever-so-maudlin cake. In the tail-end of the track, Ellie’s vocals swell and you can feel the anguish elevated in their voice. Then, just like that, the song slowly fades, leaving you, as the listener, in the tear-jerking aftermath.

Delectably nihilistic, like being drunk on red wine, the release of Ellie Bleach’s upcoming EP, ‘Now Leaving West Felwood,” is beyond exciting. If you can’t wait until the 5th of April for the EP, check out the accompanying visualiser for their song: it’s reminiscent of 1960s mod style.
