INTRODUCING
Saint Senara

From Cornwall to Gloucester, Saint Senara are a spellbinding duo to watch in 2024.

One of the few good things to come from the 2020 lockdowns is the bluesy, soulful sounds of Saint Senara, a Gloucestershire based song-writing duo who have entered the scene with a string of successes. From making their live debut at Cheltenham Jazz Festival in 2022 to winning Gloucester’s Battle of the Bands in December 2023, the duo are on track to add to their impressive accomplishments with their debut tour being announced at the end of the month.

Consisting of composer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Bate and singer, songwriter, and poet Chloe Gorman, the pair boast a unique sound that crosses traditional genre boundaries. Saint Senara best describe their broad scope as “dirty, blues-inspired rock to delicate folk numbers with dark twists,” perfectly encapsulating the complexity of their music.

Perhaps a surprising influence for some, it was Bates’ upbringing in Cornwall that has much to do with the lyrical and thematic influences of Saint Senara, with the duo drawing from Cornish folklore and tales in many of their tracks. Even their name links back to  Cornish heritage, drawing on the legend of the Mermaid of Zennor, a tale of a magical love between a choir boy and enchanting mermaid dating back to 1873.

Having released their debut EP ‘Flowers on my Grave’ in April 2023, the pair have begun to amass a small but loyal following. ‘Flowers on my Grave’ is an exciting melting pot of music, featuring tracks that are both explorative - like the duo’s cover ‘In the Pines’ – and memorable – ‘What Am I Going To Do With You?’ With a debut EP this confident, it is clear to see why Saint Senara had such a successful 2023, with a long list of gigs to their name, as well as the honour of opening for Elles Bailey during her tour of the Cotswolds.

Looking ahead to what is to come in 2024, in addition to their anticipated debut tour, the pair will be back in the studios in February to record brand new material. If you can’t wait for the tour, you can catch Saint Senara in Cheltenham on the 10th of February at The Frog and Fiddle, where they’ll be playing alongside other Gloucestershire talent for the Audio Junkfood Shiregrown Series.
